# How many ads per ad set on Meta?

Meta allows up to 50 non-archived ads per ad set. It no longer publishes a recommended number: its older 'six or fewer' advice was dropped. What Meta stresses now is variety, ads with clearly different ideas, plus weekly new ads. On a small budget, 3 to 6 clearly different ads per ad set is a sensible place to start.

## From RhythmAds

Our plans are sized around this: Lite makes 2 finished ads a month, Growth 40 and Scale 120. And every start gives 3 ideas in different formats from one product link, so the ads in an ad set differ in idea, not just color.

## The limits and the guidance

What's a hard limit and what's advice:

| Rule | What it says | Status |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ads per ad set | 50 non-archived ads | Hard limit in Meta's ad set reference |
| Ad sets per ad account | 5,000 non-deleted ad sets (10,000 for bulk accounts) | Hard limit in Meta's ad set reference |
| 'Six or fewer creatives per ad set' | Meta's 2020 advice, linked to many ads not leaving the learning phase | Removed from Meta's help article, as reported by PPC Land |
| At least 20 diversified ads | Meta's advice for Advantage+ shopping campaigns (Nov 2024) | Current Meta guidance for larger campaigns |
| Ad limits per Page | Tiered by monthly spend, from 250 ads | PPC Land reports some accounts no longer enforce it (Sep 2026) |

## Variety beats volume

Meta's April 2025 post on its Andromeda ad system defines creative diversification as a wide range of ads with different themes, messages and visuals, and says it has become the main lever for finding the right audience. Meta's small business guidance adds that ads which look too alike can lower engagement, and the system may not treat them as different.

So ten versions of one video with different headlines count as close to one ad. Three ads with three different hooks and formats count as three.

## Where flexible ads fit

Meta's flexible ad format lets you put several images and videos into a single ad, and Meta picks which format to show. Each group needs at least one image or video, and there can be no more than 5 texts of each type per group. Right now it's only for Sales and App promotion campaigns.

We'd keep different ideas as separate ads, so you can see which one sells, and use flexible ads for versions of the same idea in different shapes.

## Our rule of thumb by budget

A starting point, not a Meta rule:

| Daily budget per ad set | Different ads to run | New ads |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Under $50 | 3 to 4 | A new batch every two weeks |
| $50 to $200 | 4 to 6 | A few new ads each week |
| Over $200 | 6 or more, toward Meta's 20 for Advantage+ shopping | Weekly, as Meta advises |

## Limits

Meta's advice here has changed several times in a few years, and the help article on ad volume couldn't be checked directly for this page; the change is reported by PPC Land. The budget table is our own rule of thumb, not something Meta publishes, and the right number depends on your price point and how many sales you get.

## Questions

### What is the maximum number of ads in a Meta ad set?

50 non-archived ads per ad set, according to Meta's ad set reference for developers.

### Does Meta still recommend 6 ads per ad set?

No. That 2020 guidance was removed from Meta's help article on ad volume, as reported by PPC Land in 2026. Meta now talks about variety and weekly new ads instead of a set number.

### Is it better to have more ads or fewer?

More different ideas is better, if your budget can give each a fair run. More near-copies isn't, because Meta may treat very similar ads as the same.

### Should I use flexible ads instead of separate ads?

Use flexible ads for versions of one idea. Keep different ideas as separate ads so you can tell which one is working. Flexible ads are currently only available for Sales and App promotion campaigns.
